    Hi all,
I have read loads and a lot of conflicting info.

    Question:
Is anyone using one of these to an phone app on a mk3 golf with success. I firmly belive my 1996 vr6 is obd2?

Yeah it will connect and show stuff like rpm, speed, temp etc. It won't be able to check error codes though, mine cant.
I have a little handheld vag code scanner for that though.

By firmly believe you checked the engine build date stamped in the engine bay?
I thought mine was '96 too because that's what the car was registered as. Turned out it was built in '95.
Do you have square side indicators?

I bought the same tool for mine and it didn't work, couldn't connect to ECU, used the Android App Torque.
Mine is OBD1 and had to use VAG-COM. By the way VAG-COM is really good and about the same price but BYO laptop.

Oval indicators and a build date of '96 indicate that you should have OBD2.
