  • 94 VR Indicator/Brake Light issues

    Hey folks.

Ma VR has a strange problem... If I am indicating, then I press the brake, the indicator stops flashing.

Also, when the brake is pressed, I can just see the dash indicator lights slightly lighting up.

If I put the hazard lights on, the top brake light flashes.

Anyone ever had the same issue?

Another thing... what is the Hella "box" underneath the rear right lights?

I had the same problem a while ago, pretty much exactly as you have describe.

Check that all your bulbs are working and functional. Sometimes if one fails or there is a bad connection somewhere, it will cause other lights to fail or become intermitant. I found it to be my front left indicator bulb that had died and the bulb holder had rusted on the connections causing indicators to not work and come on when the brake was pushed etc etc

    Hope this helps a bit!

That kind of problem can also be a bad earth, this happened on one of my escorts. Check all your bulbs and all your earth connections for corrosion/grease/dirt etc.

Also when he hits the brakes, his rear indicators come on! (along with the rear hatch spoiler brake light, as normal).

That sounds like an earth problem, in my Escort the indicators stopped working but if i pressed the brake pedal at the same time they would come on and stay on (not flash). After investigation we discovered the earthing wire on one of the rear lights was frayed, this wire also provided earth to the indicators. Sounds like a similar problem.

Earth problem for sure, corrosion in the cluster perhaps, or water ingress. Water is a great conductor.

              Digging up my old thread...

This problem is on and off... I noticed this today on the left hand light cluster...

The plastic around the pin on the right is melted a bit, and the connector for that lead isn't looking so flash. Is there more to this issue? Or should I just sort the connector out?

              Cheers,

              Jordan.

That would be good, but the clip is dodgy too... you can see the contacts aren't "in" like the other ones are.
