  • MK3 --> MK4/5 bumper conversion

some idiot painted the bumpers on my car (it wasnt me)

i'm going to take the rear one off and get it resprayed and finished but i am thinking of a MK4/5 bumper with grill inserts to replace the current front bumper (and the VR6 skirts)

does anyone know where i could source something like this in new zealand or australia.
or is there someone who can modify a grill for me?
    is there much modification required?

afaik hofele are the only people who make that bumper and the only austarlian importer wanted about $3500 for that piece unpainted. it looks fantastic but it's not really worth it imo. no point spending 50% of the cars worth on one panel...

the easiest conversion would be a mk4 cabrio front on a mk3 hatch. its a reasonably common thing to do, and it looks pro.

this is what it ends up like:

      thanks for that

i'm a bit tired of the whole VR6 pieces - and shes low so she scraps a bit.
i think that piece would be perfect

and it would tidy up the foglights as well.
they are a pain in the a** to take out and clean

you get mk4 look headlights with the integrated indicators.

Not my cup of tea though. its a mk3. Be proud of the fact!

i dont want to put the mk4 headlights on - i like the ones i have.
i'm looking for a solution as the bumpers are in shoddy condition so they will need to be repainted and the VR6 skirt lips are hard to keep looking good.
i use baby oil to keep the colour up and to treat them .. but we had a mishap a month or so again so now one of them is split and the bumper has a massive scratch on the left side too.
guess i should really get a painters quote too .. it might not be as costly as i expect.

There's a guy in Sydney that has those Mk5-look bumpers. I think he's been spotted at Seb's a few times. Steve can probably chime in and tell us more about that.

Not a big fan of the Mk5 front conversion. It just has too many rounded edges and curves for the Mk3 shape.

Mk3.5 conversions I can live with, but not the Mk5.

Just sand back the existing trim with a orbital sander. Smooth, prime and paint, it'll look just as good as a body kit and cost a whole lot less, and I agree with Tim, be proud of your 3'

The Mk 3.5 front isn't that common, i know of one or two cars, but I'm also not in the scene really, don't go onto VW vortex and that and follow threads.

But Mk4 style headlamps are common overseas, not here, but other bits are, that Mk5 bumper looks horrid on that mk3 though!

Its more common on vortex to get a body shop to weld on mk4 guards so that the front bumper will fit.
