  • MK3 vr6 suspension question

Hey, currently installing new suspension in my vr6 and have a question in regards to a certain component.
I picked up new shock bearings which is in this photo (sitting on the shaft of the piston)

I also bought new rubber top mounts. which is in this photo.

my question is about the securing nut which holds both the mount and bearing in place which is seen in this photo

what is the above nut meant to be tightened to?

there is also the top plate which bolts down inside the engine bay on the suspension turret with a nylock which as far as I know, gets torqued to 60nm

It's hard to get any real torque on that nut... The shock just turns inside the sleeve.
The Allen socket on top of the shock is almost useless for holding while trying to apply 60nm.

When I Installed my Koni's I held the shock piston with vice grips to tighten them.
Not the best method I know but my Koni's have a 10mm nut shape on the end of the shock for tightening. Again this is next to useless like the Allen socket.

The Bentley should have a torque value. I'll look it up and post a new reply.

According to the Bentley manual... 60nm for both nuts. ("plus suspension")
