Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VR6 Starter motor

So I did a little trial and error today swapping battery etc and it definitely is the starter motor thats playing up, no biggy at all. Got the car going simply from a rolling start and I was on my way.

Does anybody have a spare motor? Plus where are they located.. (dumb question I know) it up the back of the block near the throttle cable?
    Previous VW; 6n3 Polo 16v, MkIII VR6
    Current; 9n3 Polo GTI

Your starter is up the front of the engine. Hard to describe but kind of underneath the coilpack to the radiator a bit more. Close to the shifter tower on the gearbox.
