Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I have some MK3 driveshafts questions.

I'm swapping my 4x100 for VR 5x100 gear at the moment on my 3dr CL.

Rear is complete and i'm now about halfway through doing the front but have some questions.

I was planning on running all the VR widetrack and all the VR bits including the control arms, sway bar, end links etc etc. Now i know a mate who did this conversion on his MK3 but he retained narrow track and simply ran his 2l driveshafts and swapped out the 4 stud outer CV to a VR outer CV so it mated up to the hub and all worked fine.

I had intention of going the same route but it dawned on me today that if i did the same as him then the driveshaft wouldn't be long enough if i'm using the widetrack control arms.

I'm wondering if the VR driveshafts might work straight up or do the VR's have a longer outer CV that would still accommodate for it to work on the standard CL shafts.
