Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • oil pressure switch

i have a 96 gl 2.0 8v. the oil pressure swith on the side of the head started to leak and the one that was on the car was brown and i called a mechanic and he got me a white one. when i drove home the oil light came on, it goes out at idle then on again when i start driving. should my car have a blue switch or could it just be faulty. i have the right level of oil in the car and am using 10/40 synthetic. there is no beeping.

    cheers

I think the one on side of head is low pressure switch, brown colour switch has been superseded by blue one. The white colour switch that your mechanic gave you is high pressure switch, wrong one.
