Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Wheel/rims clip

ok...so it was wet and slid a bit out of a turn. Managed to hit the separator bit of cement and give the car a good jolt.

I've had a look around everything and the only visible damage I could find was that the rim was badly scratched, ok that's not too bad, but then I noticed the clip. It's a metal clip that has 10G engraved on it and it was a bit out. I compared it to the other wheel. That one has the clip completely touching the rim.

I'm not sure what this clip does and how essential it is but it's out of place and I'm a bit worried.
    Any advice?

Can you get some photos so we know what you are talking about?

It's a wheel weight used for balancing.
10g isn't much, and being you have tapped a gutter is be going to get a balance / alignment anyway.
Get them to put stick on ones if you have nice wheels, I hate the damage those external ones can do

As Dylan pointed out, these are the wheel weights, used to balance the wheels.

So, unless I can feel a change in the steering I shouldn't be worried?

Well as Dylan said, you should probably get an alignment done if you hit the kerbing hard enough to dislodge the balancing weight so they should refit it for you when it is aligned and balanced.
