  • VR6 Rear Caliper Rebuild Kit

Hi all, found out my rear calipers arent retracting properly and all the rubber boots are shot. No doubt the seals inside are on their last legs as well. Anyone got advice for which rebuild kit I should go with?

I'll probably do the pads at the same time so would love some help there as well!

    Cheers,
    Max

Max how did u find out your calipers weren't working properly ?

Also get a pair of mk4 gti calipers
Check ecs so u know what your looking at, then go check out some wreckers.

EBC green stuff is the only ebc pad I'd buy for the street, red stuff is for the track !!

        Hey mate,

I just had the wheels off and notice the discs werent spinning very freely. Played with the calipers and pushed on the inner brake pad (to push the piston in) and it loosened it up a heap. As soon as you put your foot on the brake or pull on the handbrake it locks up again.

Obviously it doesnt significantly affect the driving but I hate knowing that the rear brakes are kind dodgy and that I'm wasting valuable energy because of ****ty rear calipers!

Any major benefit from going to the mk4 gti rears? Never really push it hard, just a mountain run or two.

Edit: and I tested it without the handbrake wire hooked up so its not that its adjusted incorrectly.

To be honest I can't remember now, it's a well know "upgrade" so there should be a fair few others that can chime in here
I was supposed to do it to mine but pushed it aside as I got caught up with other crap.

I've got in my head now something about weight and rust proof?

Less prone to seizing and failure aswell. EBC red stuff is still the street orientated pad. Yellow and blue stuff are less street friendly and more for the track.

I just rebuilt my front and rear callipers with all new seals ect from VW.

Next time i would just buy a complete assembly from ECS as not every seal can be brought new.
