Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Some sad news/good news.

    Hi all,

    I can't post this in the appropriate forum as I havn't been on here for long enough, but it's with great regret that I'm putting my 1997 VR6 up for sale.

    I don't want to do this, but a big change in my life and work circumstances requires me to have more time on my hands as well as more money in the bank, and whilst I love the car a great deal I am in need of a cheap to run and boring runabout that I can depend on and not be tempted to spend money on. ):

    I've spent a fair bit of dough getting her up to scratch and as she sits she's in pretty good condition.

    All my work has either been done with Glenn of Just European or Adam of VA garage.

    Parts I've replaced (all recent);

    Timing chains (very recent) and tensioner
    Camshaft chain and tensioner
    Guides
    Crankshaft seal (rear)
    Rocker cover gasket
    Oil filter
    Auxiliary water pump
    Sealants
    Outer tie rod end/bearing
    2x lower front wishbone bushes
    2 x upper suspension top mounts
    Starter motor and related electricals

    I only use synthetic oils and I don't drive the car excessively hard.

    As is, the motor is extremely reliable and you won't have to worry about any major work for a while yet. Would make a good donor motor (though I'm not parting out, sorry guys)

    It's low KM's (150,000) and runs beautifully. Sounds new.

    The paintwork is in pretty good condition. I will post photos of what little damage the car has. The interior is in pretty good nick, the dash is uncracked and has little to no fade, it's nearly always garaged. The cluster and MFA read accurately as well, no gremlins!

    It's totally unmolested aside from an aftermarket AUX console and new shift knob and boot. There are a few stickers on the car I can remove at your request.

    I will be putting the car up on Carsales and Gumtree within the next week.

    Registered until October in NSW.

    7500$ ONO, the worst I can do is say no, I'm happy to answer any questions. Feel free to text me at 0468 481 856 or contact me on here or via email;
    jimmyfahey@hotmail.com.

    I'd really love to see her go to a good home or a good cause and not end up in the hands of a moronic p plater who will kill her within 3 months.

    Cheers.

    Jimmy.

      This is a shame I'm tempted to come look when I'm down at Banora Pt next week for a few days but its out of my price range and I'm not actually looking for an upgrade atm (as much as I want a green VR6)

      What do you think you will replace it with?

        Something small and reliable and boring. I'll definitely look into another Dub in the future but at the moment I need something fuel efficient, simple - that I won't be working on every 5 seconds. Most likely something Japanese.
