  • Long gearing?

Is it just me or does anyone else sometimes wish for shorter gears in their VR6?

Yep. I went with the 3.94 and it's pretty great. I wish I went 4.24 though

These feels. The stock gearing is dreadful...probably a fuel economy gimmick.
The relative lack of low down torque doesn't help either!

From memory they're around 2900rpm stock. Been a while since I've hit the freeway in mine.

              2900 at 110. Averages around 9l/100km's.

5th pulls hard, it's the lower gears, mainly 1st and 2nd, that need to be shorter.

                  All motor!

Stock they can all be shorter. I can't upload videos but it takes 4.7 seconds for mine to go from 115-140 in 5th.

The acceleration completely changes the car from a lethargic cruiser to a peppy fun drive. I'd strongly recommend it has a first mod..

Yeah man I can imagine, you don't get much pull until about 3500 rpm anyhow, the only real downfall to an otherwise fantastic motor. I'll definitely look into it.

                      Hayden,

How much roughly would this mod set me back?
I'm well over the long gearing.

ps. this may seem like a stupid question however this is the first manual car I've ever owned

I'd budget $1000-1200 if you just took the car to a shop.

If you just take them the gearbox $400-500.
