  • Jimmy's VR6 build thread!

    Hi all,
I did my introductory post a little while ago.

Today I'd like to officially start my build thread for my dragon green 1997 VR6!

    So a little background on the car;
I'm the third owner, was purchased new by an architect for his wife to drive, and they kept it for quite a few years until the second owner bought it as a third car, he'd planned to spend money and time on it but couldn't justify it, so he put it up on Carsales.com - where I found her, 147,000 Km's, sitting in a garage.

I flew to Sydney and inspected her. She wasn't perfect - I knew from the get go the starter motor and front wheels needed replacing, as did the bushings in the tranny.

But I loved it. I drove her back 830 Km's to Kingy.

Anywho, fast forward a few weeks, some new tyres, a starter motor replacement and a much needed service and wheel alignment...plus a weekly wash and buff.

    Ta da!

Anyway, the first thing I needed to get out of the way were those bushings and that terribly worn gearboot and shifter.

This took a long time. I had to enlist the help of one of my mechanic mates to help drop the tranny and get the bushings in place! 5 hour job for two pieces of plastic. D:

But, at last, we prevailed...and I had a new shifter and boot on hand. Solid steel, had to thread it properly, but man it feels good in your hand.

      Summer's day problems. ):

Thanks mate! Been crazy busy but I just had to get rid of that sloppiness! Detracting from an otherwise clean car.

Coilovers, exhaust system, new wheels. Plus a bit of interior work will do I think.

To stop burning yourself on the gear knob, just throw a sock over it to keep the sun off. Should do wonders.

Thanks man! There's a few tarnishes here and there but overall it's in beautiful condition, love it.

I'm sure you will, always wanted a Mk2 but I could never find one without a dodgy owner or needing some major work, couldn't warrant it unfortunately. Looks sweet.

My MK3 VR6, she may be a pain in the ass, but she's MY pain in the ass. Nobody else can have her.

Sorry for the ordinary quality, but here's my current inspiration for my build! But we'll see how we go.

Just ordered my JOM Coilovers before I went to work this morning, and currently sorting out a quote on my exhaust system. Have decided to roll with the Remus muffler after much deliberation (and many replays of YouTube clips)

More to come in the oncoming weeks!
