how do I check auto fluid level in our GL

(I'll let the pros step in as I'm a muppet with no clue, but I know it's a PITA, under the car there's a skid plate to protect the g'box, in behind that you can pump oil into a feed..............surely VWVortex has an epic how to)

Start it up, remove drain plug, and see if any oil drips out. If no oil drips out, add oil.

You need to gravity fill them from the drain plug.
