    Hey guys,

    I just got a huge package from germany with front struts, front wheel bearing, outer tie rods, timig belt kit + waterpump and some small stuff. So I think I will have some fun over the next weeks.

    I have never replaced front struts before and was wondering, if I can get the springs off without an extra tool or if I should bring the old strut with the spring to a workshop to get it off and onto the new strut? Has anyone done the job and has some advice on how to do it best?

    The next question is on the front wheel bearing. They are presses in right? Is there a way to get it done at home or is that another case for the workshop?

    The last thing that would be awesome to know is, where to get the triangle shape nut, so I can take of the fuel pump?

    Sorry to ask so many questions, just want to get the car into good shape asap.

    You need spring compressors to get the strut assembly apart or risk losing some teeth. They aren't that expensive to buy. Cheaper than paying a shop.

    Wheel bearings are pressed in. I don't have a press and I can do them at home. I am not recommending it to you though, on an "if you have to ask" basis. It is possible to damage the hub casting enough to scrap it.

    The fuel pump is in the tank, not sure what you mean about the triangle nut? post a picture.

    Also, moving your thread to MK3 section.

      Hubs, you may need to purchase the outer hub flange that the wheel bolts to, depending on how trashed the bearings are.

        Thanks for the responses and for moving the thread to the right place

        I mean the fuel injection pump that is driven by the timing belt. Mine is leaking and has some weird paper seals that are not supposed to be there. I bought a re-seal kit and want to do it at home, but there is a special tool for the Bosch VE pump.

          You never mentioned it being diesel, hence the question. A pretty rare vehicle here.

            Sorry about that,

            yeah the car is a '95 TDi with manual transmission. I am ordering all the parts from overseas, because it is hard to get them here and pretty expensive.

              Hey guys,

              I just replaced the seals on the injector pump and tried my best to line everything up like it was before. The car is running, but there is definitely something wrong with the injector timing or the amount of diesel that it gets. At the lights it almost dies when I try and accelerate unless I let the clutch come while keeping the rpms up.

              Can anyone help me out, please. Is there an easy way to get that fixed or do I have to take the pump out and get it tuned by a Bosch Service place? What is a normal idle for a TDi? At the moment it is idling at 900rpm.
              The car didn't have a lot of power before, but now it is ridiculous and on the freeway it goes to 2600rpm and then looses power.

                It's possible that the pump timing is out.

                Doesn't have be to be out by much to cause running problems.

                  Just went to the car, unscrewed the lower half of the pump and slightly tapped it away from the timing belt and now it is running like a champ. Just have to check the fuel consumption in case it is to high I will have to tap it back a bit
