  • Gearbox oil change

    Hullo peeps

I've ordered some Motul Gear FF-LSD Type 2 gearbox oil for impending track day shenanigans. So I was thinking i'd get adventurous and try and put in myself. How hard is it to on a manual gearbox and HOW do you do it?

I don't own a haynes/bently manual, so pix or a link to a how-to would be muchly appreciated!

No worries VR6 yeah???? then u have an 02A box in her, all you need is a 17mm allen socket. Diff has drain and fill. lowest 17mm allen is the drain and diff half way up the casing 17mm is the fill.Fill the thing till it starts to dribble and you are set mate.
    Cheers

Yes, yes, manual. Why the hell would anybody buy motul gear oil for an auto?! hahaha

Gear FF-LSD Type 2 is 75w-90 as well william. Apparently used by the Subaru WRC team... but thats not why I got it. Gear 300 is good, so the garage that I'm getting it from says, but Type 2 is more suited to a FWD car like ours. See here for the full write up.

                  Tee-hee

I had thought about syntrax, only reason I didnt was that rice burners were giving the huge thumbs up to motul - so why not?

The syntrax was a darn sight cheaper though, and much easier to get a hold of. Maybe next time...

No idea if I even have a 17mm allen, we'll see - i'll let you know if I need one, cheers mate

If you dont have a 17mm allen socket, you can make one from a 17mm bolt and a couple of nuts. Lock the nuts together on the bolt and you could use it to undoo the drain plug.

This is going to show how un-mechanical I am, but I cant find a 17mm allen socket. Biggest I could find was 10mm. Tried supercheap and bunnings, no dice. So I tried the nut+bolt thing but couldn't find any 17mm sized bolts either. Found a 15mm bolt in the shed... but god I suck at this!

Is 17mm some kind of bizarre proprietary VAG size?
