  • Daily 2 door CL

    Hey guys.

Its been a while since I have ventured into the Mk3 forum. I used to own a modified 94' black VR6 Golf with 17" BBS RN amongst other goodies. I then sold that VR6 back in 2010, then I focused on a B1 Passat.

Then 8 months ago arrived our first little child into our little family so It was time for a family car. Car of choice is a 2000 SAAB 9-5 Aero. 230hp with 330Nm of torque makes for more than fun family car

We sold our 2nd car, a boring auto corolla yesterday. Spotted this local CL a few weeks ago. Talked to the owner today, test drove it this evening, offered some cash and now its in our driveway

My new daily and its a blank canvas. It feels awesome to be back into Mk3 Golf. I dont know why I left.

    Has 'some' alloys
    Nice amount of rego.
Just run in at 243,XXX ks
    Smooth manual
    Cold aircon.

    Needs:
    Low
Better alloys (I have some BBS basketweaves 14x6.5 to go on )
    General tidy up.

Overall a great daily. Im busy now juggling a little family, tuning a SAAB Aero and now a mk3

    Better picks soon.

Lol yea man. Very underrated car. I never ever thought I would ever own a Saab. But it just happened, and I just happened to buy the high output turbo model lol. 2.3 turbo 4cyl and fwd! My aim is for 280HP with 430NM. Auto box won't handle much more.

Cleaned up the CL today. Removed the seats and center console. Vacuum, vacuum and vacuum. Did not found any spare change but did find an old dog bone...winner

              Removed awful pin striping

              Then finally a wash.

More things to add to the list.
              Need:
              Drive belt
              Rear tow point bumper cover
Dash lights don't appear to be working. Found a trim piece in the glove box that appears to hold a globe. Betting that's the cause. Lot of good its doing in the glove box...

The CL has fog lights but the headlight switch unit only offers rear fog selection. I think I remember that the UK switch has a selection for both? Why have fog lights but cant turn them on?

yea I know. Weird! Yea dash mat came with the car. Make me an offer on it if you want it dude. We are lucky to get a sunshine down here in Tassie so I dont really have a need for it.

soooo clean! some of the UK switches do both front and rear.
iv been looking for one myself and there seems to be endless combinations. actually found a good thread on tex that had part numbers for basically every switch out there

I remember looking for one for my old Vr6. The switch was stuffed but I also had kamei air ducts in the bumper instead of foggies. Ended up buying a switch from UK that did both front + rear.

Ill see if the wiring is yhere for the foglights.

I know that my switch does the front ones but unlike the UK dual switch, does not have two pop outs. Just try turning the lights on and pulling it out? hahaha.

Joe will back me up here if he sees this.

Thanks guys. The car does have some imperfections and a few things need attention but it's slim pickings for a 2 door mk3 down here. I dont mind doing a bit of work to bring back to former glory.

Yea the switch pulls out one click unlike the.switch I had back in the VR6 which from memory pulled out 2 clicks (front + rear).

I had a quick look and found that the foglights are actually wired up to a relay and taps into the back if the headlight. Didn't go any further finding finding out which circuit. Regardless they still don't work and they are not a genuine fitment.

Not sure whether to stick with the relay idea or find a switch and genuine loom. Not a priority anyway haha

Tidy 3 door mate! Good to see another on here

On the topic of fog lights, I'd be more than happy to purchase them off you if you ever consider parting with them; I've got all the bits, pieces and harness to install them, just lacking the actual fog lights and front tow eye covers.

Can't wait to see what you do with this!
