Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • st2000m alarm system

    G'day
    I have a 97 mk3 cab.
Having done a bit of maintenance, cleaning all earths in engine bay, I've discovered l have an alarm system linked into the central locking.
Car wouldn't go. No crank, nothing.
In the end l disconnected the correct earth to disable the alarm.
The car started up, all good.
Having rifled through the paper work that came with the car, the alarm was fitted within a few months of the car being purchased by the original owner.

I would like to try and see if anyone has any knowledge of a model no. ST2000M alarm system.
    Don't know the brand name.
    Cheers

I used to fit insurance approved alarms in the UK and none of them would allow a car to be started by disconnecting the earths or pulling the fuses. I am concluding that the alarm isn't that clever.

Also, being 16 years old, I'd say there's better available now that would be worth fitting instead.

      Thanks h100vw
I'm not wanting to fit a more modern alarm.
I am hoping to find out more about the alarm system that is fitted.
      Cheers
