Starting and rough running problems

Hey fellas,

My golf's acting up. By this i mean the engine won't keep running when started. It has enough fuel in it and the battery isn't flat. It backfires and dies when pressing on the throttle.

Im not really sure whats happening as i don't know engines enough to decipher this, but my dad seems to think it might be a fuel filter problem or maybe a vacuum hose leak.

If anyone can help me it out it would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

p.s. Its a 2.0L

Might be time for a new distributor cap and rotor, too.
