A/C inquiry/not quite "issues"

Okay, so this morning I took my Golf to the auto electrician down the road. Now, this guy is trusted as we've used him countless times before and he's always done a terrific job but this morning, for the first time, he was of no use and instead gave me "bad news".

He popped the bonnet up and said "mate, I can't see a pressure switch and if I have to weld one and go through the dash, this could be a big job". I then went home, did some googling and discovered why he couldn't see the pressure switch; it's located on the drier/receiver which is located in front of the drivers side front guard - it's basically invisible unless you take the bumper off!

Now, as much as I want to take it back to him and be all "Hey look, the job IS actually easier than you thought it was because all the components ARE there" I want to ask, do Camden GTI do A/C fixes (seeing as though they specialise in VW's) and could they sort my A/C issues out? (I just don't want to ring them yet but I want to gather a general opinion and see if anyone has taken their car there for A/C fixes).

To start with what is your a/c problem? why going straight to the pressure switch?.. VDUB...

My AC problem is that it isn't wired up. Everything is there (bar one major thing) but yeah, it just isn't wired up.

So I took the car back to my auto electrician and asked a few more questions, his main concern is that the car doesn't have a fan control module (box that sits under the coolant reservoir). He said finding one and trying to wire it up is a massive task at a large cost and that for a car this old it may not just be worth it.

So I guess it's windows down this coming summer!

Why would one cut all the wiring up?? Are you sure its not just that the plugs are hidden somewhere and all you need to do is get a hold of a module from a wrecker and plug it in? ALso, I thought the fan module controlled the radiator fans so maybe they've wired something in its place....

The wiring was never there to begin with. The guy I bought the car off installed the OEM AC system himself (this CL didn't have it as standard) but he stopped when it came to the wiring as he "couldn't find the harness and what to do."

Yeah, Smeeb has a few of these modules lying around in his various wrecks but this module also controls the 3-way pressure switch and in-dash AC controls as well as the radiator fans. It sits under the coolant reservoir and mine is non-existant because it didn't come with one from factory. Another point to note is that my auto-electrician isn't sure if I have the wiring for my dash controls and everything else behind the dash so he doesn't want to give me false hopes, start the job and then ring me saying that it's going to cost a lot more because there's even more work involved.
