Has anyone by chance modified a us spec cup holder to to fit a rhd? Ive heard that this can be done however im trying to think how as the end up the cup holder is angled to the left of the console, not right light ours..
Easier to get a us spec lhd console?
Iv noticed teh cup holders in US spec Mk3's to be in a pretty poor spot. Like most people put stuff in the centre console. Iv seen some of those cheap autobahn slim line dash vent holders that would work well on a Mk3.
ive seen some others that fold and sit on he side of the centre console. may be an option. From what ive read, jap spec Mk3s also have cup holders and these of course would be rhd... the search continues...
I had started working on one yesterday. Hacked up one with a dremel, used a soldering iron to plastic weld it in place and then sikaflex to close up any gaps. Turned out average. Still need to clean up some of the sikaflex residue
I take it that its the right front / side that needs to be cut. One of those things where hopefully some time and patience will give us both a good end result. Did it fit without cutting back the front right? My ununderstanding is they fit but don't lock in place?
I cut out the whole bottom of the console so it sits down inside it. Was a lot of trial and error, test fitting and mucking around. I got a little over it and cut a little too much so it definitely isn't perfect. After the hole was cut I melted the plastic together from the bottom so hopefully it won't move.

I didnt realise that there was that much work involved ... Guess I will be tackling it with no rush and trry to get it right first time round
