  • Mk3 help/suggestion please!

I have a 4 door 98 CL and absolutely love the look of 15" wheels on them! My problem is being from the Coast, NSW we can never get away with being 'too low'. I'd really like to achieve a Stanced OR tucked look, my question is; Will 15s be too small and put me at an illegal height? And should I go 16s instead?

    Thanks

    15's with 70 series rubber....

seriously though, you pay to play. lows + hassles or highs + uncool look.

it really doesnt matter which size you go to, its ultimately the stance.

i need my car every day so dont want to be bait.

      Mk3 help/suggestion please!

Hey another from the coast! All of my cars have been lower than legal if you want to look at it that way. Haven't had any problems yet (*touch wood*) in my experience it seems if your wheels aren't bright green / pink etc and your car isn't covered in stickers and glowing neons you shouldn't get too much attention.

bigger wheels and bigger tyres can help fill the arches.
getting a mk3 to tuck tyre while staying above 100mm doesnt really happen though

Thanks for the replies guys! There's a set of 15s I really like but I'm thinking I may just go with 16s! Have to keep my eye out. Also what coilovers are you guys running? I'm looking for a set, hopefully not TOO expensive, but I know they don't come cheap! Thanks!

            Id even suggest 17s
coilovers can be cheap. generally the more you pay the better the quality and ride though

JOM coils are under 350 from ebay

i have racelands on 17s with 40s on an 8

ride is bumpy but im used to that and the leather seat springs still give me some bounce.

Yeah I was looking at JOM, as a last resort, but being that cheap turns me off do obvious reasons haha. Where's the best place to source racelands and cxracing coils?

Don't know about Racelands, but the best spot for CXRacings is their Ebay store.

And on the wheel size matter, I'd say the only way you'll get half decent stance/tuck at 100mm is with 17's.
Front lip on my GL is at about 90mm and i fail the shoe test with 16's and 45 tyres.

Ebay is best place to get coilovers I've found, nearly always works out cheaper.

Theres no way you'll be able to get that stanced look at 100mm on 15's. I love 15's, probably my favourite size on the mk3, but you do need to be really low to pull them off IMO. If you want to keep it a legal height I'd probably go 16's with some chunky tyres and give it more of a sporty race car sort of look, you're not going to be able to pull off small stretched tyres and such at 100mm off the ground.

Could always lower it some more though ;P Most people on coilovers in these Golfs dont have too many police issues unless theyre stupidly low.

How bouncy are they Smeeeb? I do like the fact they're cheap. Just hoping I won't want any camber adjustment!

Yeah I'm with you on the 15s being the best look for Mk3's Ben, but I'm definitely thinking they might be too small, and I'll just have to suck it up and go for some 16s with chunky tyres. Thanks everyone!

They aren't bouncy at all. They seem to have the same ride my dad KW v2s have.
