  • New Golf.

    Pics to come.

Just picked up a 1997 Golf CL (< I think) in maroon, colourcoded, sub 200,000kms. Going to collect it on Tuesday, will tidy it up, daily for a bit, then sell it on or maybe something else (my brother has offered to fund a mental idea... but it is a little bit out there and I'm avoiding another 'project' car, but going to price it up anyway, don't think of VRs or turbos...none of that). It was heading for the wreckers and it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too good for that, besides some peeling clear-coat on the roof... she's tidy. Just doing it for fun really.

She bought a new GTI, and just wants it gone. It is a little rough around the edges, but will tidy up just nicely I think.

Anyone have any experience repairing clear-coat, it doesn't really matter, but if I could get a gloss back on the roof the body would look great.

Ahh fair enough. Glad to hear its getting saved .

How big is the clear coat issue? I had a chat to my panel beater and he reckoned he could blend my spot into the paint but its only about 150x200mm. And I have a sunroof that they can blend around... Reckoned that would be around a $250 job. Otherwise everyone else tells me its a full panel respray job

Yeah I fear she will probably never see a respray. Just going to be a budget daily for me, then some lucky P Plater.

Ahahaha ohhooh nooooo. Respray roof quoted $350, can anyone beat that? Might get the Vento done and leave this one as is.

Mate, so happy with the Vento at the moment I don't want to risk disturbing the VW spirits by touching it (translation: don't want to spend any more freaking money on it, just yet), and its roof isn't too bad, but probably does need some protection as bits are starting to lift.

So I have a maroon car and a blue car, when will I join the cool kids?

Hopefully mooching a Patrol tomorrow and renting a trailer. Why didn't I take pictures? I'm the worst car buyer.

Haha sounds like you mustve gotten a good deal on it so who cares Btw who quoted you on the roof respray? I'd rather do the whole roof for 350 instead of just the front bit for $250.
