Pulled out the vr6s ecu today to check chip numbers for the new chip I bought. Went to drive out to dinner and 1 minute down the road the car just shut down with the battery and oil light flushing. It would turn over fine but wouldn't start. Disconnected the battery and ecu and reconnected them and roll started it (had killed the battery by now) and it started and ran for a minute again. Then shut down. Does anyone have any ideas? I've done the unlock lock thing but no cigar. Ihink its mechanical as the car soufine. Any help is greatly preciated! Max

If it is the immob it would start then cut out with 2 seconds or so. The immob and engine ecu can go out of sync when battery power is lost, did you connect or disconnect with the batt still connected, i know they dont like that. Sounds like it will be going on a truck to have the learnt values resync,d. If that doesnt work out you may have bent a pin or done something with the ECU and that wouldnt be good at all

Cheers for the reply jmac and excuse my writing. It was done on a phone. I made sure i disconnected the battery before I removed the ECU. What I dont get is that it starts fine if you disconnect and reconnect the batt and ECU but only runs for a minute or so and dies again. No issues when running and feels fine. Could it be the aftermarket central locking thing that the guy has put in? Its one of those ones that you have to press the unlock button before it will allow the starter motor to kick over.Current: 2007 Black Magic GTI - APR Stage 2, Carbonio intake, APR downpipe and catback exhaust, RNS510, Bi-Xenons, Custom Red Leather Interior, Tow Bar, Racks and Parking Sensors

So I have error 00668 from the ECU only. Does that suggest battery? The Rosstech wiki implies that if it is low voltage it will register on all modules but only the ECU is registering the fault on my VAG-com.Current: 2007 Black Magic GTI - APR Stage 2, Carbonio intake, APR downpipe and catback exhaust, RNS510, Bi-Xenons, Custom Red Leather Interior, Tow Bar, Racks and Parking Sensors

Has turned out to be the engine speed sensor. Has anyone got any advice on what to do with it? Is it just a simple replace job or should i give it a clean?? It seems to fail when I wiggle with wire coming out of itCurrent: 2007 Black Magic GTI - APR Stage 2, Carbonio intake, APR downpipe and catback exhaust, RNS510, Bi-Xenons, Custom Red Leather Interior, Tow Bar, Racks and Parking Sensors

[QUOTE=decksla;934886]maybe?
Yeh well i'm fairly confident its the RPM sensor now. I got down there with the car running and had a fiddle and it just died on me. Can't figure out why it's started after I removed and replaced the ECU but maybe it's just a coincidence... Although now I'm worried my starter motor is packing up. Sounds like something is spinning after the car fires up and it doesn't sound nice.Current: 2007 Black Magic GTI - APR Stage 2, Carbonio intake, APR downpipe and catback exhaust, RNS510, Bi-Xenons, Custom Red Leather Interior, Tow Bar, Racks and Parking Sensors
