Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • A problem

    Hi all,

I've noticed on my mk3 golf 2.slow that it has developed a high pitched "whine" coming from the rear of the vehicle.

Its something electrical, because its still there when i'm stationery. I don't think its the wheel bearings. I opened the boot to see if it was more prominent, but its no. Maybe the fuel pump?

If i stick my head under the rear of the vehicle is very prominent and very annoying. If i turn the car off, it's gone.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Cheers

but the sound is only coming from the bottom rear of the car...i've tried to narrow down what electrical bits are in there, the major being the fuel pump etc.

its really pissing me of! lol

Probably fuel pump. You could change filter first. If that is clogged it can make the pump work harder and whine.
Lie on the floor driver side in front of rear axle if fuel filter. If it looks old change it. Otherwise you will need a new pump.
