VR6 on OEM Audi wheels, what is the max length wheel bolt that'll have clearance?
I believe stock is something like 28mm, is there room for 35mm? (no spacers, Mk1 TT comps/fat 5s)

Yeah stock thread length is like 27/28 as you said.
You may be able to get away with longer, but I'm not sure if 35 is too much...
If you have the bolts already, install them with the wheels you wish and turn the wheel, it'll be obvious straight away if it can be done or not
