      Re: The Twin! VR6 No.2

Id go for cxraxing coilovers if they're still cheaper than the other good brands, havent looked in a while but the price seemed to rise on them over the time I owned mk3's, they were a steal when they first came out and no one knew about them, like $600

          The Twin! VR6 No.2

I think the cx racing set you back around $870 these days. My fks are nice and comfortable for a coilover setup. Firm but not harsh. Although they don't have the stiffness adjustment and won't go as low as the cx do. If I were buying coils I'd be trying out the cx

Really happy with my CXRacings, cost $883 all up. My only complaint is that they're a little hardly to wind up and down compared to KW's I've played with. But the ride quality, cost, and adjustable damping make up for that.

How does the ride compare to the stock suspension?

But yeh at this stage that's a bit out of my price range as I'm concentrating on fixing EVERYTHING first.

Got my second key and second remote Fully genuine VW as well with the key. Has the little light in it hehe.

Heater core and clear coat next and I'm pretty much done!

                Professionally done clear coat?

If you don't mind me asking but are they expensive? I really want my CL done sometime soon.

Sorry should've clarified, I just have two spots where someone hit the car with a high pressure washer too hard and I'm going to see if someone can blend them in. My panel beater said he could blend the roof one in around the sunroof but I have one on my door and thats tough to blend.

Have heard of those really straight jobs where its almost perfectly flat without orange peel but I'd imagine thats exxy and I know I'll never get it back on the car...

They're still quite firm/hard compared to the stock suspension, but not harsh or bouncy at all. They excel if you're going really low as the suspension travel isn't changed by reducing ride height like other coilovers, but if you'll be keeping it around legal height you're probably better off with a cup kit as Water Boy has suggested.

Id suggest definitely fixing up everything before doing suspension, then save up the extra money for good coilovers, it'll be worth the wait. It pays to do it right the first time, if you put a set of the cheap ones in (theres a few brands of them, but they're basically all the same except for what brand name is stamped on them) chances are after a while you'll get sick of the ride and will regret not spending the extra couple hundred, and will want to upgrade them to something a bit easier on the spine.

                      • I'm not so concerned about firmness, more about how harsh they are (going over those bloody UQ speedbumps hey ben! Especially when I'm late for something) and the bounciness (if thats a word). I hate the feeling of a 'cheap' ride I guess. Part of that is tightening things around the car to reduce rattles as well I guess.

Heatercore will be a bitch of a job to be done after mid-sems but should be having the chip socket soldered in and the chip installed by Gavin (h100vw) . It's all waiting ready to go just need the soldering done!

Also new front tyres, exhaust leak somewhere and RPM sensor all lined up to be fixed.

                        • All coming together huh. I'm surprised how well my cheap annono brand coilovers ride, I had koni yellows and eibachs in the golf which could be wound super stiff, but apart from that they were hardly worlds apart. I haven't felt these ones low though they're at a bit of a grown up height atm.

                          • Sure is What brand did you buy for the volksborghini?? Adjustable suspension just like the 550 mate. They're practically the same car!

Anyone had a fiddle with the radio power on mk3s? I know in the mk5 if I turn off the ignition the radio plays until I take the key out. And then I can turn the radio on with the key completely out and it runs for like 45 minutes or something.

Just wondering if the same can be done on a VR6? You have to have the ignition on to have the radio on in my car! So you can't just sit there and listen to music without draining your battery on everything else that turns on with the ignition. Any ideas? Is it a Vagcom thing?
