Respraying a VR6

Hi guys,

Just looking for some ideas on what a full respray would cost for a white (non metallic) VR6 would cost? Car is OBD1 so has all the older style black trimmings etc but keeping it the same colour.

Depends on quality.
1k for cheapo not including prep. 8k for real deal

If I'm going the same colour is it worth attempting a closed door job? Or will that look too crappy?

if it's the same colour, close door should be fine.

Given the age of our cars, you'll probably notice that the inner door sills are different (due to paint aging) than the exterior surfaces.
Close door cuts down on alot of prep, so should be a good saving there.

I wouldn't pay anything less than 3K. From what I've heard, most panel shops don't like you to do you own prep (as poor prep = poor paint finish, which makes them look bac). But there should be no reason you can get all the trims off etc, to save them some time (and hopefully you a little bit of the folding green.)

Best thing to do is visit a few paint shops and ask them!

Yeah just go ask some places, you're probably looking 4-5k or so. All well and good to ask what we think it will cost, but wont mean anything when you actually show up to a panel beater, they'll laugh at you when they give you a price and you say "but the internet people said it would cost $xxx"

And plenty of spare time, if so give it a go yourself, take your time in the prep and don't rush it you'll save sooo much money and its a great feeling once its done .

dad would kill me. Unfortunately dont have the skills/ equipment or time to do it. Would need to buy a practice car or something haha.

You need plenty of time and patience (and space) to repaint a car. It'll cost you around $1500 for good materials, a decent gun, compressor, water tank.

If you're not a patient or methodical person, I wouldn't attempt it at all!

I got dents in each of my fenders and my hood. would it be cheaper to let the resprayer fix them up or to buy new ones? also, how much money should stripping the car, removing bumpers, doors, hatch, etc save? I want to do as much as I can before a respray to minimize costs. sorry to hijack the thread max, but question seemed answered

It all depends on who you get the quote from really.
I fully stripped and sanded my hole car got a quote $4000....This is why I painted my car myself saying that I do understand why they charge so much . Like the saying goes you get what you pay for.
