I have recently purchased an auto vr6. The problem with it is whenever I acellerate, the change from 1st to 2nd gear is not smooth. It revs in neutral and then jumps into 2nd gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Im not sure whether it needs brake fluid or an entire overhaul. If that's the case Ill drop in a manual.

Ill be an 096 or an 01m and is notorious for valve body failing which in turn will have done all your clutches. Piston seals turn to mush too , especially if the fault isnt there when cold and then appears when warm, classic sign of that is a huge jolt when you seect reverse, hate to say im sure its not good, seen way too many to be otherwise
Cheers

Ive been told it will cost me around 3.5k. Anyone had any experience on conversions? as 3.5k seems a bit much. The car is a rare version with one of only 6 or 10 in Australia so I'm told. Ive invested 5-6k into the car, would it be worthwhile switching the gearboxes or should I just wreck or sell it (srs). Thanks for help. Much appreciated!

I'll happily race any other naturally aspirated manual VR6 against my auto (the older stronger 3 shaft version) and put $100 on the table they wont be able to beat me . So lets see how many people will stand by the manual vs the auto now ?Originally posted by Mk3 AAA View PostDrive auto 'til death, then manual swap, better on fuel, more reliable, dumps almost 2 seconds off 0-100 time... unleashes a grumply VR caged for decades by a dull auto.

This again? Is the car stock? Stock auto v stock manual in Oz delivered form, my money would be on the manual for 0-400m, track times, and longevity, not saying it would or it wouldn't... just saying where my coin would be.Originally posted by Bug_racer View PostI'll happily race any other naturally aspirated manual VR6 against my auto (the older stronger 3 shaft version) and put $100 on the table they wont be able to beat me . Re: Gearbox problems vr6 help?
^this. I bet if both engines were identical the manual would walk all over the auto (unless ofcourse the driver wasn't any good). comparing a heavily built race motor with an auto box to a less powerful motor with a manual transmission isn't exactly fair...
