Engine Temps

Hi Guys,
Coming back from Wollongong this morning I got stuck behind a Kia doing about 30kph up Macquarie Pass Anyways, the temp gauge got up to about 110 It soon got back to the normal 90-95 once I got back on the flat but should I be worried about this? 110 seems very high and wondering if my high speed fan should be letting the car get to those kind of temps?

I asume this was the oil temp gauge. I often have mine very high, 110 to 120 during spirited sriving. 10 minutes at a time between 5000 and 6500.
To and from work and normal driving its 90odd, but in trafic ive seen 100-110.

No this is water temp, was a bit worrying for it to be that high

Should be sitting on 90 flat give or take 10 degrees! Whenever I am in traffic it sits at about 95-100 but then fans kick in and goes down, maybe your fans aren't kicking in or maybe something to do with your cooling system

Think i'll have to get the fans checked out

Stand in front of the car and let it warm up turn on the heaters to make this process go faster Once it hits 90-100 fans should kick in you iwll be able to notice the sound make sure that you turn off the heater first though once its warmed up lol.

My VR was getting hot yesterday... 43 degrees in Perth. Not as hot as that though...

Doesn't turning the heater on extract heat from the engine bay?

I'm saying to merely heat up the car faster it works.

Steve, turning the heater on will cool the engine, as it brings another radiator into play.

Make sure you're using genuine VW water coolant.

Good for a quick burst of cold too - The pipes to the heater core will be holding cold coolant - Turn the heater on and it'll drop the coolant in.

IMO - No car should ever sit above or below operating temp unless something is wrong or you're in seriously hot conditions.

Am using genuine VW coolant, the red stuff. Yesterday wasn't that hot, probably only about 25 where I was, it's never done it before or since so it has to be something to do with the slow mountain climb. Think I'll get it checked out at CVWC as soon as I can get it in.
