MK3 window problem

hi everyone
i have a 97 mk3 gl with power windows, lately the rear passenger window will not wind up or down with the switch yet when i put the keys in the door and turn all the way left (to wind them all down) or right(to wind them up) it does work.
has this happened to anyone before? how did you fix it? or should i just take it to a electric windows repair place instead of screwing around?

Hey buddy most common power window failure is due to the regulator

U can buy them online and do it yourself there is a thread on here how to replace the regulators no more than 100 bucks posted
Otherwise if u take it to someone it cost about 300 bucks

have you tried the rear passenger window switch as well as the one on the dash?

Yes I have thought before posting and used both switches haha (not meaning to sound arrogant in anyway)
What exactly does the regulator do? Because as I said it will go up and down with the keys but not the switches

the regulator (put simply) guides the window as it goes up and down. It doesn't make sense that the regulator would be stuffed if it goes up and down with the key, but not the switches..

Can you hear the motor going when you use the switches? or nothing?

Nope no sound at all and it just shut off for no reason at all. I may just have to get someone to have a look at it instead haha

MK3 window problem

If you hear a tick, motors fine.

If its going up and down, regulator is fine. Seems like there is a issue elsewhere, disconnect the wiring give it a clean, same with grounds

If it was the wiring, then regardless if your using the key or switch, the problem would still be the same.

Behind the switch is a resistor chances are its blown. Best way to check is to use the other rear switch or get another switch from someone/wrecker/junk yard.
Use the broken switch on the other rear door an see if it operates that window.

Oh an resistors are about 20c from a local electronic store, i think d i c ksmith might sell em to. Best you take the switch an show them the resistor cause theres about 1000 different resistor combos out.

Peel the rubber boot back where the wire goes through the door, could be a broken earth. See a lot of them on Golf 3s at the moment.
