reverse gear pops out and crunches(mk3)

Put it in 1st first and then in reverse seems to do the treat

My GL just went through all this about a year ago. It was clicking when in reverse, that was due to a missing tooth on the reverse idler gear and then all of a sudden 2nd gear started to make a horrible sound. Ended up getting another box and rebuilding it. It cost quite a bit, around $1500 from memory just for the rebuild. A guy in Penrith did it for me.

Yeah it is past linkages that one mate it is the idler that is goosed. Should be able to get an 020 gearbox instead of paying for a rebuild without any dramas.
having said that its no a bad box to do.

I have a friend who said the problem with this is got to do with the downpress on the gearstick to get it in reverse
