  • Mk3 headlights?

    Hi all,
Newbie to the site, and to the driving experience of a white '95 VR6, yippee!

I've got a mad little list of DIY projects to do on my car over my holidays and one of them is to upgrade my headlights. I've had a look all over eBay and various sites that have headlights to offer; it's all well and good knowing what kind of headlights i want, but unfortunately the American ones that I've found supposedly point the beams in the opposite direction to Australian lights..

Does anyone know where to buy some euro headlights in Sydney? I've been looking for a while and can't find any anywhere..i'm told there's a shop or two in parramatta? I really wanna UPDATE the look of the front so headlights are imminent!

Here's the headlights I'm looking at, if someone could tell me if they come preset to AUS standards that would be awesome.

Welcome to the forums Mrk_Mickey! Some places I can point you to in Australia that sells aftermarket bits for our Mk3s include Carshine (in Melbourne), Carmate (Villawood) and Parramatta Prestige. Some international places you should look at are GermanCarPerformance (you can talk to Mike who's on the forum) and TMTuning. A few members have dealt with TMTuning including myself, and they're pretty good.

As with headlights, it's best to stick with a known brand that are known in VW tuning circles, as many aftermarket headlights for our cars are generally of poor quality (bad lense fitment, housings prone to melting, poor light quality etc). Some more popular headlights have been made by Hella, In.pro and FK. Of course, you'll be paying lots of $$$ for them, but they're generally worth it and you can some times grab yourself a bargain at certain places.
Also, when you go buy your headlights, some can be set to left or right hand lane driving. It's best to ask of course!

    Good luck!

    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

Cheers for all the info dude, much appreciated!

I Took time out to look at the links you gave me...holy crap! What a huge jump in price

Is it always going to be around the $500+ mark for headlights? I was hoping to spend maybe 200...I haven't got that kind of money, sounds a much bigger mod than I expected..(and here's me thinking my DIY jobs wouldn't be expensive..*slaps head*)

Ebay ones aren't bad, always use the % total of the car's value principle on mods. New headlights at 500 for a car thats worth 6k is 9% of the total car's value on headlights. Thats rather high just for a pair of lights, consider the chinese made ebay models, they're the same as the aftermarket ones you can purchase here and are usually lower quality copies of the more premium brands. Also consider that they have some degree of quality control, if they keep getting sent back or are given bad feedback, then they go out of business pure and simple. Also consider that these lamps are mass produced most probably in the 10's to 100's of thousands at a time, so realy unless your getting something custom, obscure or incrediably cheap those "cheapies" shouldn't pose an issue.

I think its joey mod time for u mrk_mickey! While the ebay ones may be cheap the quality i would be concerned about is how well they are sealed, the strength of the glass, and the quality of the wiring. Inpro is a cheaper alternative but is under the Hella company so i would look into their stuff if ur really interested.

Calculating percentage value on stuff u buy is not the way i would go about it. My car is my hobby and i dont like to skimp on things but i also do like a bargain. The fact is that you wont get ur money back pouring it into ur car but that is a fact i can accept.

Yeah your absolutely right peedman, but if you have a perfectionist personality like me, and believe what you have could always be better, then you have to think about what to get next. Which is why i'm actually considering a MK4 GTi in the next 12 months if I get another 7 weeks worth of work coming in.

Yeah pullstarter we're all looking forward to your next purchase! I'm getting smoked side markers as well just before christmas teehee!

Haha, I would like to admit I am the exact same. I'm too particular just to smoke my own lights; I like a cleaner look so I want to buy clear euro-style headlights..and I'm thinking, why not just go all out on some projectors and get some HID bulbs or even Xenon or something while I'm at it!
