  • clutch cable retainer at the gearbox end....

Today the clutch pedal began to feel a little different a few times. Changing from 1st to 2nd through a roundabout the pedal went to the floor. I pulled over to get out of the way of traffic. Figured I had snapped the cable so restarted the car in first and drove to our destination (happened to be less than a kilometre away).
Investigated later and found that the retaining clip that holds the cable in place on the shaft to the gearbox was snapped. Cable looks fine, still has the ball on the end that must locate in the retainer to hold in place...

My question is how difficult this is to change out... the cable now does not look long enough to slip behind the retainer at the back of the shaft. Is there anything special to installing the new clip??

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Its pretty easy to change, just jack up that lever (obviously not too far, but pretty much as far as you can before it actually starts lifting things) and put the cable back through and new clip on and you should be good. Theres a rubber piece and a metal bit which goes over it like this:
so you'll need both if theyre both gone

thanks heaps for that.... didn't notice the rubber bit in the lever so not sure if its still there or not... but that metal bit is cracked across the leg on one side and the other had snapped completely...
