  • Something broken in the steering - VR6 :(

Hey guys, bit of a problem I can't quite work out. Hit a pot hole coming home a couple of weeks ago, damaged something in the steering.
Drives ok under acceleration but shoots off to the right when backing off.
Also now have a horrible rubbing type noise, does not sound like metal on metal tho, sounds like coil over on wheel?
Wondering if wheel bearing has possibly collapsed or is it more likely to be a ball joint/ rod end problem?
Really need help ASAP guys as I can't drive it ATM.
    Cheers mike.

Could be all of the above. Jack it up, and have a look. With the wheel off the ground, grab hold of it and see if there's any movement.

Cheers mate, I jacked it up and had a bit of a play around, not much movement aside from the ball joint, seems pretty normal.

I'm a bit stumped to be honest, normally pretty good with this sort of stuff...

Alright had a bit of a stuff around, does not appear to be CV or bearing problem. Occurs on mod-hard right turns only, coming from pass side steering assembly.

Any suggestions guys? Ball joint or rack end?

Also check the control arm bushes especially the rear round bush, at the same time if there is a lot of up and down play at the strut the strut top bushes should be replaced aswell.Easy and cheap job and the difference is noticeable in the handling afterwards.

Cheers mate, will have a look into control arm bushes. Have recently replaced strut top rubbers and bearings, have coilovers too if that makes any difference?
