Anyone restored a VR6 on this forum? Need help

If you do that to a colour concept I will fly to sydney and bitchslap you. Then steal your car and drive it back to Perth to set it right again.

Colour Concepts are the 'best of breed' VR6 and ought to be kept in the best condition possible. I'm sad to hear of the state of yours, but if you do decide to fix it up you'll be doing a great thing.

It's interesting to hear that there is a green one in Sydney too. I've been trying to track down where the other greenies in the county are.

As others have said, I wouldn't be starting/driving your car again. Get it towed down to Camden GTI and let them sort it out. It sounds like a bit of a mess right now

As for suspension, pretty much everything on my colour concept was buggered when I got it. I've progressively replaced it all since purchase. KW Coilovers, top mounts all round and all bushes. For whatever reason, VR6 suspension cops a hammering and our cars are now getting old. Pedders can go take a long walk off a short pier.

I might do the front end conversion to a 2 door vr6 im buying in 2 or so years time then

Another problem with my concept, the red and black interior is worn and cracked. It will set me back another 2k getting the interior restored. The green one we inspected was very nice except for a couple of things. 1. Front bumper was left white for no apparent reason. 2. No service history, nothing. 3. Didn't tell us about some of the things it had replaced. We found more information on this forum after the inspection. 4. It dragged to the left etc. If I had a choice I would go back in time and buy the green one . nicer interior too.

Hopefully gonna get the car towed to Camden in the next 3 or so weeks. Hopefully it will not cost as much as my old Jag did to fix haha

Was just a thought. Open for a swap but not sure you'd want to! Should I keep the exterior fully stock or would it make a difference in re sale price if I put in a aftermarket grille?

They're great cars especially if your lucky enough to own a colour concept. if you wanted to make it Reliable i would start With the engine because that would be the most painfull part . once thats all sorted out move on to your suspension bushes and driveshafts.suspension parts are pretty cheap if you know where to look and. A set of decent coilovers would change your mind and you'll fall in love with it because it changes the way it looks an drives. then at the end save up $$$ and get a set of rims that YOU actually like and please no chromies or spinners and that is all you need to do. ive had the same problems but worse and i didnt know anything about vr6s but when you start pulling stuff apart yourself and ask questions you learn allot which saves you lots of labour costs .And one more thing never rush it do it once and properly good luck

Thanks for the help! I was thinking of fitting 22'''chromies from the 90s. Just kidding, I was thinking either old school BBS, new gti wheels or maybe something else. Are coilovers adjustable (noob question)? I have many speed bumps in my area and I don't want to be going 5km per hour each time I go over one Another noob question, would you know an around how much it would cost to get an engine rebuilt?

They only cost $2 to rebuild not much Haha it all depends on how bad the engine is. Ive had a blown head gasket on the second week of owning the car and ripped it appart and cost me $1500-$2000 to fix with the extra bits but since then I havnt had any problems it still grunts louder than a VTEC or a VN ss take it to Camden Gti and let them have a look for ya http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...vr6-60355.html

When I first got my colour concept, I think the first service was $1200. Then over the next year or two I spent quite a bit on fixing small bits n pieces that were dead or dying.

My interior is pretty knackered too. The front seats need to be re-done, as does the gearstick and handbrake.

Exterior wise, yours looks nice! Take off those reflector things though.

As for mods, rims, etc, this is what mine looks like these days:


Most coilovers are adjustable, but you need to do it with spanners. I have mine set at max softness to deal with perth's crappy roads.

what do you mean by reflective things? Top of tailights? fuuuark, Yours looks so nice! Those rims are heaps nice. One of the best ive seen :O I might drop in a manual into this thing a bit later too

I carnt hear/see whats wrong with that vid u put up !
Sounded normal, unless did u turn it off at the end of the vid or did it switch off by itself ?
If it is playing up, it could just be your coil pack or maf.
Best to get a scan done !!
