  • Any experiences with aftermarket (heavy duty) strut mounts?

    Hi guys.

    After riding on the new (and bloody stiff) springs for a few months, it sounds like the mounts have shat themselves. I haven't looked at them yet but I reckon they're due for new ones as the car is still using the same ones that came out of the factory.

    I was wondering if anyone has installed any and/or have any experiences with heavy duty mounts in their Mk3? I'm after brands/websites and feedback if there's any!

    Cheers,
    Raymond.

    Hey Raymond, I was recommended when I was fitting the V2's to get my top strut mounts changed aswell! Seb at Euro Automotive installed them for me, give him a hoot and ask him. As they didn't cost much actually

        did anything come of this rayrayrayrayray? I have my coilovers out at the minute and might as well replace these again with something uprated?

          I was looking through a few Vortex threads with many sponsors advertising their **** for the Christmas season, and came across MJM Autohaus. I haven't made any orders yet as I'm still looking around.

          I want to order some in before I go with replacing my control arms, CV shafts and tie rods though, so might want to make an order soon. You interested?

          On the topic of mounts, I was thinking of getting a set of engine mounts too. Would it be worthwhile to go for uprated engine mounts for a car that won't have much power but will run hard suspension?

            I am waiting on an order from MJMAutohaus, I also found them on Vortex. They have been quick with email replies, and their prices are unbeatable. I am yet to decide wether their shipping is reasonable, but I reckon it will be fair.

            From what I have found, they seem to be the most comprehensive OEM supplier with a good selection of aftermarket, at the lowest prices.

            (P.S. I am not sponsored by MJM, just a customer who has thus far been impressed)

              Found two shops that I may purchase from:

              MJM Autohaus
              * Front strut mount + bearing (pair) - $34.95USD
              * Strut mount bushing (pair) - $7.50USD
              * KYB rear mount kit (complete replacement) - $37.50USD

              German Auto Parts
              * Strut mount + bearing (pair) - $35.00USD
              * Strut mount bushing (one only) - $2.21USD
              * Polyurethane rear mounts (mounts only) - $20.95USD

              GAP has a $100USD minimum purchase for international shipping though. MJM I haven't asked. I'm leaning more towards GAP since they've got the polyurethane bits. I'm aware they'll be noisier though. Tim, you interested?

              Edit: Thanks for the feedback sukebe! They do seem to be very comprehensive with both OEM and aftermarket parts. Who did you speak with?

                    I had heavy duty in mine for a while. Did not really seem to last that much longer than the normal ones.

                    If any of you guys want cheap local parts, call Tooley Imports in Lindfield Sydney.

                      Which heavy duty mounts did you get, and where from? There seems to be quite a difference between the HD ones and the stock ones (a lot more "meat").

                        Most of the shops in the states all sell the HD strut mounts for about $40USD, so email around and see who is going to be the best freight price, it will vary.
                        I got some with my B&G's and they seem abit beefier, but time will tell whether they last with stiff springs and shocks.

                        Keep in mind western union charge on a sliding scale, most bank transfers a fixed rate.
