  • Anyone know how to pull an SKC from an ECU

    Hi chaps
    Have lost one of my key for my Mk III and whilst I have VAG-COM I don't have the SKC code for the car. Have heard there are various way of extracting with varying degrees of risk/success etc. Anyone had any experience with this.

    No expert but I reckon you get it from the clocks with VAGtacho. I don't believe there's a risk to reading it.

      I believe it's held in the ECU on the Mk 3 and in the cluster on the 4. I have VCDS so I can code a key if I can get the SKC. Ihave heard some horror stories about VAG-Tacho and there's a lot available on eBay cheap, really just want to know if anyone's tried it?

        I have VAGtacho and read the code from my A4, I have used it to make the needles sweep in a V5 Bora too.

        have you looked atthe tutorials on the Ross Tech site about Immobilisers?

          Yeah i use Vagtacho and my version is from the Uk, a bit better than some of the chinese models, still for the Mk3 i dont go there, you are right they can be a drama with Vagtacho. You are also right the SKC is in a seperate ECU for your MK3. The gear to sup that code out is 100 times dearer than the best Vagtacho. Some good auto locksmiths have the readers but will still charge a callout, for me being independent still works out cheaper at the dealer for that immob version. you can buy good emulators if you want to bypass the immob if you had dramas with it. Mk4 totally different, and ive mentioned them in another thread, you have 2 types of cluster too and that can make a big difference, VDO 5 min job, Motometer have your lunch and a coffee waiting for authority. Audi A4 same deal up to 2000 the immob is the same as your MK3 in a seperate ECu

            I just want the code so I can code my own key with VCDS. The dealer won't/ can't give it to you because the new system vw uses does not actually show the code to the dealer. I recently lost a key and now have only one. I have a spare ECU, IMMO and key chip which I bought to diagnose another problem so I could try the procedure on that one first. Any idea what's the best VAGTACHO on eBay or wherever? You would think just to get the code it should be ok?

            Edit: I wouldn't mind paying someone to extract it for me either if they know what they're doing. Cairns is my place of residence and the car is a tdi.

              You can just take your current key to a locksmith and they will 'clone' it. I was quoted $90 for a new key. Yes, there are cheaper ways, but by the time you buy a blank key and chip from eBay, and the vagtacho cable, and all the messing about, I found it easier to just pay the $90.

                Yep agreed mate, some good autolocksmiths do have a cloner, they are mega dear to buy, ive looked into it, but some good locksmiths do have them for sure. Like i say non cluster Immobs i stay away from because of dramas, i know of a drama even trying to sup out the code, guy blanked the prom, but might have been op error perhaps, but i dont need that so i stay away unless in the cluster. Might be able to ask down here if there is a cloner around the traps and see if i could be done for ya, whats the worst case you could post the key hey

                  The Autologic can read SKC and other pins from the ecu's. Just find the shop that use Autologic and is willing to do it for you.

                    Cool, thanks guys, I'll see if I can either get the code using auto logic or have my current key cloned. Code is preferable, then I'm independent. The silly thing is when the car was new the SKC code came on a tag that was attached to the key. Somehow it got lost.

                      That's exactly right the originals did. Then when I worked at the dealer moons ago we gave them the immob serial number and they gave us a code valid for 24hrs, now of course it's done via mainframe and vas5051 or 02. Then of course all of the above ideas. Did u have luck?
