  • advice from my AGG 2.0L people!

Guys I need to replace my thermostat because it seems to have stuck open thankfully not stuck closed....

But alas, since it's such a pain in the ass to get to, i'm going to do it right the first time and replace any and all other parts to do with the cooling system....

Any advice on what I should buy before I rip it all apart and regret not buying something??

at the moment my list contains just the thermostat, hoses and a new bubble.... any other bits known to be weak points??

    Thank you in advance!

    . . . Alex

I don't have an AGG, but a 2E is close enough

I'm doing the water pump too and all associated seals around it.
Bit more fuss, but you won't need to worry about it for another, well, 10 years.

You know I'm a noob, but give us a yell if you need a hand. Does this mean you'll be hecti-crashing the euro meet?

nah man, haha, the hectiva has sold! haha, i'm still driving the cabrio, not the best but not super bad.... yeh man, i'll hit you up, two sets of hands is definitely better then one

i've just placed my order through GAP:

          Water pump assembly
Thermostat cover kit with spring clip
          Cap, expansion tank
          Expansion tank
          Thermostat with o-ring

thinking of getting a samco hose kit..... who knows how long i'll have this rig for but I like the idea of having them...hmm

Maybe I won't get the samco kit..... the samco kit is "US SPEC"?? safer to steer clear if that's the case?? how different can it be?

What's the symptoms for stuck open thermostat? Mine hasn't been warming up to 90 stays at 70, I'm thinking open thermostats the cause. I also seem to have a coolant leak so am considering replacing all the hoses etc also. Guessing GAP is the place to buy from,

                  Good man.

                  Got plenty of G12++?
8v's are super simple, once you get the the ancillaries out of the road, its easy.

mine doesn't warm up at all unless it sits idling for a period of time, but as soon as I start driving again it drops right down again...

That's not good. After reading up on it a bit more seems like I don't have anything to worry about with the thermostat for now. So that's a bonus. Why didn't you buy the hose kit off GAP? Maybe not the same quality as Samco but a fair bit cheaper.

Make sure the water pump is one with the metal impellers. Otherwise, you're on the right track. When's your timing belt due? If it's in the next 10,000km, then might as well tackle that as well.

Silicon hose kit on GAP is the wrong one for the 2E/ADY/AGG I think. US-spec ABA has a different head so I'm guessing it may have different hose configurations.

Alex, if you took out and worked on a VR6, you'll have zero problems working on a 8V

because there isn't a kit for this 2.0L afaik....

Yeh I saw that about the impellers, i'd have to assume GAP would sell the updated version?! Timing belt was done not too long ago so no need and i'm not worried about working on it, I just want to make sure I have all the parts needed before I tear it apart :/ I don't want to get half way through and wish that I had've bought something :/
