  • 2.0 Air-con compressor

So I picked up my car knowing it needs a new compressor. Initially just planned on just giving it in to the mechanics to get done, but I've gathered enough courage to attempt it myself.
Going to start looking for used/reconditioned units at the wreckers, or if anyone knows or has one let me know.

But to the real question, anyone attempted it on here? If so are you able to shed some light on the process. Would help a lot!

    Cheers.

I'm in the midst of doing a similar job on my MK2.
Swapping the compressor itself isn't a hard job, however keep in mind that,

    1. The A/C system will need to be degassed, if it hasn't loss all its gas already.
    2. Make sure the replacement compressor is still useable (ie no leaks!)
    3. Before the used compressor is swapped in, you would ideally flush that compressor with the appropriate oil.
4.* A/C techs generally 'flush' the entire A/C system when a new part is installed/if an old part fails.
    5. *A/C techs generally replace the receiver drier/filter drier when the system is 'opened' to the atmosphere.
    6. Once reassembled, an A/C system needs to be vacuumed down (evacuated) with a proper vacuum pump.
    7. The system needs charging with the appropriate amount of gas(R134A) and oil.

    *Means open to opinion.
R134A is also illegal unless you have a license (in QLD anyway)
