Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • strange regulator problem

so after my old regulator had mangled up wires, I replaced it with a new genuine one a few months ago. All was good until recently it was stuck in the closed position and wouldnt budge. The weird thing is it seems like its constantly trying to move because you can hear the motor every 15 seconds, even while the car if off and the key is out.. I unplugged the motor for now because it started to get very hot.

Also, just in case this means anything, before it got stuck the window wouldn't work when the door was open fully, but would when it was closed or slightly open... the same switch however works fine for the opposite window.. I had a look at the wires in the door since I thought maybe when the door is opened it would disconnect something there but it seemed fine, not that I could really know how to troubleshoot it.

But what would cause the motor to be working constantly, even with the key out?

need to fix this asap as I'm unable to use drive through's anymore

Possibly interior light related. Pull the fuse for that, and see what happens.

      Pulled it out, no fix

Window will open with they key trick, switch will work for passenger side but not drivers side

Also just to be clear, the window would open with door closed BEFORE, now it won't budge and motor isn't making any noises, switch still lights up though and works for passenger side
