Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Coolant hoses

It would appear I have a water leak under my expansion tank, so am starting off with the hoses as I wanted to do these for a while now anyway.

Has anyone ordered the silicon hoses off Ebay (or if you know another source would be appreciated) and what are they like. Do you get ALL the hoses, I have heard that you may be 1 or 2 of the very small hoses short?

Also is the expansion tank the same on all MkIII, ie 2.0L and VR6? If anyone has one in Brisbane in good condition, may be interested if the hoses aren't the problem...

    Cheers

One thing I've found is if you're changing to slicone hoses, you'll need to replace all the hose clamps with slightly larger ones.

mate don't quote me but if i can remember the expansion tank is slighty different in size from the vr6 to the 4 banger, im not sure on the hose though

ebay sell full silicone sets although i'd try and stick with a well known brand like the forge kit or samco kits
try GAP or ECS but the shipping may be a deal breaker..... although im sure even combined with shipping it will still be cheaper then replacing the set with OE hoses

Yeah I found these on ECS:

        Volkswagen Golf III VR6 12v > Engine > Cooling > ES#1832516 MK3 VR6 Coolant Hose Kit - Red - FMKC015R

Just waiting to hear back on shipping costs.....

I thought I might be up for a set of hose clamps all round too, that will be a pain trying to size each one haha.

i just threw a set in the cart and the shipping was just short of $78

see if the rep can help you out with a better price, also ask them if they sell a set of clamps to go with the hose kit

or maybe have a shop around a buy some other things you may need which might offset the ridiculous shipping costs

just be aware that once you start adding things to your cart it can get out of hand very very quickly hahaha

Don't know why I just didn't do the cart shopping thing to get a shipping price

That's still just around $300 delivered which I think seems to be a pretty good price for a Silicon set delivered.

Who would have thought I would get hung up on colours! Would prefer red, but they are out of stock, may have to settle for blue hoses...
