  • BBS wheels - will they fit?

    HI there.

I have stock standard 97 Golf GL with standard allow wheels. Am looking at some 17" BBS wheels on ebay.

I am fairly sure these will fit my Golf, as there are 4 stud pattern, but just wanted to check to be sure if there any other measurements etc i need to check.

As they are 17" will the guard clearence etc be ok?

By putting these on, will the car be lowered by any amount?

    Any advice appreciated..

    Thanks
    KIM

no prob with clearence, my car had 17" and was lowerd 65mm at the back, however i did roll the guards a little 1-2mm, this was also 7.5" rim and 215 rubbers... i think your find the ride hight very high with 17" rims on...

with the right tyres on, it won't change the height of the car at all - if it did, you would have to get the odometer adjusted to match the wheels... any bigger than 17" and this is the case.

That being said, I have 17's on my stock CL and it does definitely look higher than it should haha - in other words, you next mod after the wheels should be suspension.

some people say that it gets ALOT bumpier, however i haven't noticed this...

as for other measurements, you need to make sure they are 4x100. also, (i don't know what the bit it called) but the hole in the middle of the wheel is different sizes with different cars (I tried to fit a spare from my 2dr lancer on the golf and it wouldn't fit on)... someone else needs to elaborate on this last part haha - i don't think it really makes sense lol.

Good find on the wheels Kim! They look like BBS RX wheels - they also came on Mk3.5 Cabrios and early Mk4 2.0L Golf models I think, albeit in 15"/16" form.

They look to be in good size too - rears would fit fine, and if you have troubles getting clearance at the front, a good fender roll would do the trick (inexpensive).

Good luck with the auction - with 15 bids and still 5 days to go, they seem to be pretty damn popular!
        Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
        Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

with the 215s it will be a close fit i reckon. The 205s would be better suited.

Hi Guys, thanks for all your repsonses.

Can you elaborate on the "fender roll" mod, what is involved actually?

Does anyone have a photo of snadard GL with 17" wheels and standard suspension so i could get an idea of how it will look.

            thanks

you won't need to roll the fenders unless you actually lower the car.

that is mine on 17"s with stock suspension - there is plenty of space.

More of a fender rolling prep than the actual process, but here it is nonetheless. Aim: To remove sections of the front guard liner under ...

Ray Ray did this DIY on the preparation for fender rolling - then you take it to a panel beater and they 'roll' the inside up.
