  • Little help for a newbie? Online wheel shops that ship to Australia?

Hey guys, i was wondering if anyone knows any aftermarket wheel shops online that ship to Australia? Cause i looked into buying local and i wish i could but the prices are ridiculous so i was just after some overseas shops? Ive got a budget of about $1500ish for a set with tyres for my mk3 golf, im after 16s as they are for go and 17s are for show (i think?) so yeah please mention if you do know any that are safe and great to use cheers

local joints should be able to do you a package like that.
check places like tempe tyres, lots of replica designs.
Rimstyle is one that shows up in PVW a bit, so maybe check them.
Tirerack.com would be worth a look too

Yeah i went up to Tech9Tyres today with my dad (as im still on my 'L's aha) they had a decent selection but where pushing the $1500 budget, i did like a set of BBS RS reps they has there but didnt really want to go to 15's, can you convince me otherwise? :/ cause im yet to believe that 15s can look good with slamming my car i really liked the 17s they has there of the same BBS RS reps but dad wasnt to set on em :/ 17s can fit without having to roll the fenders or anything cant they? it hasnt been lowered, yet

Newbie and online wheel purchase are not a plesant mix. Try local first, second hand genuine aftermarket or OEM. In my rookie don't quote me opinion. My 17s did very little to performance with low profile. Width etc is important too 17x8 in sensible offset are probably going to suit 'go' more than 16x 9.5 with super low offset for example. I think; Make it genuine, make it look good, and make it fit.

I just bought some wheels ex UK from this crowd without issues

BM Auto Sport - Alloy Wheel Specialists but I have no idea if they can help for your particular car. email and ask, and if they cant help, ask for their recommendation.

Don't forget taxes if you have a $1500 budget

I bought my vr with 17's check out my build thread. They looked pretty decent.

For your money you might want to keep an eye on the second hand market on here.

Keep in mind the figment of the wheels, offsets, widths, etc. I'd read up before you buy, wheels that don't sit wide enough will have you coming back for something else later.

eBay, gumtree, classifieds, etc are all good options too.

running bigger wheels (17s) has nothing to do with rolling guards
                    Say no to reps
If you have no idea one what your after, maybe do as noone said and pick up something second hand that has already been successfully run on a golf.
btw, are you 4 or 5 stud?

Yeah personally I'd be looking at second hand wheels, but there are plenty of cheaper brand new "replica" wheels and such you can buy in the price range. As Dylan asked, are you 4x100 or 5x100? (Is it a 4 cylinder or a vr6?) If you have questions about what will fit and whatnot, I, along with a lot of other people on here who know there stuff, will be more than happy to help

I think 16's are pretty much the sweet spot for wheels on a mk3 if you don't want to be completely slammed, although 17's can work nicely too and take away some of the wheel gap, making the car look a little lower even if it is as stock 4wd height. 15's look pretty small when not really low, and even then, they still look pretty small.

15's always look small Ben... haha 16's is where its at but 17's can also work. If i was you id look through the forsale section on here or on vwgolf.net

Either way id recommend second hand over new unless you are willing to spend big $ and you know exactly what you want , size width offset tyres.

16's go well with a 40,45,50 profile tyre depending on the width of the rim
17's go well with a 40 profile also depending on width of rim

As Dylan said rolling the guards doesnt really have anything to do with the size of the wheel it all depends on where the wheel sits width wise and how high your car is.

Wow cheers guys, well ive got a GL with a 2.0l 8v so im running 4x100 PCD on there. Yeah ive been scouring the second hand market on gumtree for ages but had no real luck :| but i will try some more on here and vw golf net, i really dont want to give my golf anything less than the best but i just thought reps was the best i could get with my price bracket, i would love to go 17s but my dads not seeing eye to eye with me, seeing as im still on my L's he thinks there either going to be stolen or attract to much attention from old bill
Thank you guys ever so much for the help sorry for being such a nuisance :/ ahaha just want wheels and dont know what to do

You can get rep bbs' on eBay for $990 in a variety of sizes any pcd and any offset, though have a few widths.

4x100 should make it easier. Whenever I look for wheels it seems that anything good comes in any size beside 5x100.
If you don't mind reps check out a site called otomoto. They're an Australian shop with bbs and borbet reps from $165 a wheel and they do a package with tyres for like $900. Couple different widths too. I wanted a set but they don't stock anything in 5x100
