  • Fix your off center rear axle!

If you're like me and constantly hating on how one side pokes more than the other then here's the fix.....

So in my case, my passenger side (left side) was poking about 5mm more than my drivers side (right side) and consequently looked **** and was scrubbing way more ..... doing this, I was able to center the axle for even fitment and was also able to shift it backwards a touch (not much) to help with the front to rear off center issue.... and no more scrubbing!

put the rear up on stands.....

Loosen these six bolts, shift it across and retighten to FT (fkntight) ...... or 70nm (52ft-lb)

Whilst your're there, maybe replace the fuel filter to save jacking the car up again later? your call... you can just see it in the second pic......

    Hope it helps

Matt just did this too his mk4 also, near perfect now.
I need to as well, mines bad enough that I even ran a 15mm adapter one side, 20mm the other, and the 15mm side still poked.
dunno about the mk3, but mk4 says to have 3-4mm of play in it on vortex.

Good work Alex. Was it easy to shift the beam?

It's been on my list of things to do as well (atleast research.)

Will be a bit more confident to do this next holidays.

for reference, mine also rubs worse on the passenger side!

Consider having this done as part of a wheel alignment.

When I had the Bora aligned we had to shift things about a little to bring the rear into proper alignment.

Do it, it won't take long and I tell you, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face on the test drive afterwards and also when viewing the car from behind..... one of the best things I've done so far.....
