Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VR6 Remote Central Locking?

Just wondering if anyone here has put remote central locking in their VR6, as I am thinking of doing it as a bit of a holiday project. Because it already has regs to actuate the locking through every door and it is just key activated rather than remote it shouldnt be too hard to do, just wondering if it is actually possible to tap into the existing system and if so what did you guys use?

I used a momentary 2 channel 333mhz remote and receiver off eBay. Was $8 to my door and it took me 30mins to install.

If stabbsy doesn't want it, I'd be happy to see it Or the link atleast, I could probably figure out the wiring.

The locks in my cl only open all doors if I use it on the driver side, although I guess thats just where you would tap in. Does anyone know if CL's are meant to have central locking from both doors and mines just defective, or is that how they came from factory? Neither would surprise me. Haha

It's so easy in the MK3 golf, as the locks are controlled by the air pump in the boot. No need to trace wires, just hook it all up to the pump in the boot. 20-30mins and your done, a bit longer if you want indicators to flash, as you may need to wire in diodes to each side indicator, otherwise they all flash when turning.
