Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Vr6 vs ABF Gearbox?

Hi guys, been quite a while since ive been on here!

I need advice please, does the ABF gbox differ to the VR6's?
A friend of mine bought a VR6 and his first and 3rd gears are shot, does the ABF one fit perfectly and are the ratios different?

    Regards

    Ex: '96 VR6

I think they have a different bell housing despite both being 02A..... THAT might be waaaaaaaay off, just from memory.

ABF gear box would have a 4 cyl bellhousing and vr6 a 6 cyl bellhousing. so probably wouldnt work, unless you swapped everything over, but that might be a bit more work then its worth.

Yea different bell housings (4cyl vs. 6cyl)

Not sure if the internals could be swapped.. but as above that could be a lot of effort

Thanks guys, did have a look and we bought all the internals as they are the same. We are going to rebuild the gbox.
