  • Rear Hub removal??

How do I get this off now? I tried hitting it with a hammer, spitting on it and yelling at it in both English and German. No luck?

Hub is busted so I'm trying to swap it out...?

Where the F has that been to get so rusty???

It should just pull off towards you. Does it rotate at all?

I am hoping that you don't want the disc, so knock the back of that between the brake pad carrier mounting bolts.

The other thing I'd have out is the blow torch or a heat gun.

My suspicion is the centre of the outer bearing is seized to the hub.

You should soak it in penetrating oil as well.

Can you get to the bolts that hold the stub axle on?

I was thinking that? The 4 bolts that sit behind the head shield? Will that do it?

It's rusty as hell cause the bearing collapsed and it's been sitting for a year I guess?

I can get to those 4 bolts? Are they holding the entire thing on? Not just the heat shield?

My suggestion is go by a 3 jaw puller. Put around the disk and crank on that bastard (may involve you standing on the spanner) Mine were super stubborn and they weren't even rusty. Definitely the only way i would have got them off.

I had the best results in the situations like yours with WURTH Rust Off

Spray it on and let it soak for hours or a day and then attack it with the hammer. Or hire the axle/hub puller.

Once I got the cotter pin and that hand-tightened nut off, mine slipped right off. A jaw puller would be best in this situation but it'll cost quite a bit.

Even some harmonic balancers could be used for that. Just use 2 wheel bolts with them.

spray it with all the lubing agents you have and then pull with all your might.... haha... as said before, it should just about fall off once you remove that first nut.....

Very simple tool you can make from scrap metal, if you had a welder.

I've made it 20 years ago to remove hub from Mazda323 and have used it recently.

This forum is the best! Thanks all!
I decided to switch the whole rear axel set, so it will all stay together for now. It's a long story, I'm out of touch see? Too much time adding sweet aftermarket bits to luxobarges and not enough toiling on my mk3. Outta touch!

If you've got that nut out I'd just go at it with a big ****ing hammer as long as you dont want to reuse the brake disk. Mine have always come off very easily aswell.

For future reference, the reason it so difficult to remove the hub was because of the inch or so of play in it. The bearing was seized on and my hammer is for hanging artwork, not wailing on rotors.
