    Sorry for the short question thread but I've searched quite a bit and can't find an answer. Are chips such as GIAC and techtonics bought from the US compatible with our vr's here?

    Actually, I'll use this chance to ask a few more questions.

    I had fading brakes last year, pedal had to travel far and had no bite so I machined the discs and got some deluxe brake pads. Within a few months they started to squeal realllll bad, like ear piercing bad, and it only happened for the first few stops. I think it's just a combination of glazed pads and rust forming on the discs. This is only the front btw. Looking to spend 400-600 for a good upgrade.

    1. Would a good choice be going with slotted discs (less heat, less glazing, right?), fresh pads and new brake lines? (slotted or drilled? ceramic pads? brands to stay away from?)
    2. If the discs I get are still 280mm, would new calipers be unnecessary?
    3. How important is it to beef up the rear as well, should I bother?

    The chip needs to be written for your ECU part number. Get that and do your searching then

    If the pedal was hard but you weren't slowing down, that's fade. If the pedal got spongy and went to the floor, that's the fluid boiling.

        You should have your brakes bled. Completely replace the old fluid with some fresh, new DOT4 brake fluid. The original Mk3 rotors are not meant to be machined and reused, I remember reading about it in the manual, so I think you're on the right track with getting new discs. Slotted or not, up to you, but the factory VR6 brakes are vented and for daily driving, that's sufficient cooling.

        Not sure what you mean about getting new calipers? Slotted or not, if you buy rotors that are suited to your VR6, there's no need for new calipers.

        No need to beef up the rears.

          oo, thanks heaps for all the info ray. would you recommend braided lines? what are the benefits? also what's a top pad brand and compound, I got deluxe ceramic last time I think, might not have been best since it's squealing so loud now.
