Hey everyone,

Saw a similar post on another website for mk4's and thought it would be a good idea to start one here for the mk3 heads like me who have the "mod bug"

So far i have

1. De-badged
2. New Wheels
3. New Tyres
4. New mk4 gear stick mod coming soon ( as seen on a "how to" thread posted on here a while back, cant remember who though )
5. New Stereo set up, Sony subs, amp, head unit, speakers etc

next to come...

Coil overs / lowering springs ( desperately needed, holla at me if your selling )
Headlights
badge-less grill


any other cheap mod ideas.... ?

haha, from your list of mods, I'd say this is not so much a poor mans mod list, but perhaps a "mod and still daily drive it" list.

I reckon I could fit and tune a turbo cheaper than that list (DIY i mean!)

airbox for sure. If you're handy with a spanner R32 control arm bushings improve the ride a fair bit. and you can get short shifters for fairly cheap (around $35)..

Agreed... Steering is already nice and tight on the VR6! Some odd sockets going around...

But yeah if new rims/tyres and nice sound system are your version of poor man mods then lucky you! Like Hayden said though suitcase delete goes well, I just got that done the other day and it sounds mad, cost me $70, also picked up a badgeless grille a while ago off ebay for $70 or so plus paints to colour match it. Have a look in the mk3 DIY thread, some good links from the vortex and stuff on there

Don't have a running car do yet to actually comment. But for $100 from the states. Saves a bit of weight and less things for the engine to power. Anyway. Was cheap and easy.

Fair point, sorry should have mentioned i have spent some coin so far... hence why i am now broke!


Ordered some 30% Tint from Protinting a few minutes ago... 3 meters worth for $50 will give that a crack next weekend

I have heaps to add, I'll have to put togethor a list and post it up later

For now ill just say this, not a mod so much, but cheap and makes all the difference. A good proper detail and nice wax, with proper washing to advoid swirl marks and to keep the paint perfect makes what is normally just a 17 year old **** box look <5 years old when outside black plastics are restored etc aswell. My old cars paint looked like it had just rolled off the showroom floor, if not better. Good times. My new cars paint is ****ed :/

Just because it's cheap and easy doesn't mean you should do it.

Taking front brake calipers off is cheap, easy and saves weight but I wouldn't recommend you do it.



I have to agree with Ben. The best thing I ever did was clay bar, polish and wax my car. Turned my car from being dull grey to a lovely metallic bluestone blue!

Also slow polish on bumpers works well. Spoiler delete is cheap and easy! Only a few dollars worth of grommets and it's done.

Another one is to buy some h channel weather strip from Clark rubber or an equivalent shop and stick it to the rain tray to seal against the windscreen. On most cars this area has gone hard and cracked or peeled off.
