  • oil on inspection plate

Hey, my rear main seal is leaking and oil was found on the inspection plate. What are the chances that the oil soaked into the clutch and it has to be replaced? Clutch seems fine while driving, could I get away with just cleaning the oil off when replacing the rear main?

    thanks

certain its the rear seal and not a leak around the sump gasket? These can leak, especially if there are tell-tale signs of drivers bumping the sump.

bugger! you have remoed the inspection plate by the sound of it.

Depending on the quantity of oil seeping it might not have spoiled the clutch material.

If it has you would sense it soon enough on the clutch.

If you do need to change the rear seal you might as well do the clutch, unless you know the clutch is new or near new.
while you're there you can do the rear seal housing gasket and remove all doubt of any leaks there for a few years

        Good luck.

          thanks
